Our Jyotish Guru SH KN Rao shares- his mother recited the Mritunjay Mantra at least 500,000 times even before getting married. In the India of the 1920s, the life expectancy of an average Indian was around 25 years. He recounts how his mother successfully delivered all her babies without any of them passing away, unlike the unfortunate occurrences in neighboring households where one or two children were lost every 2-4 months. Remarkably, his household experienced no such tragedies. He emphasizes that everyone should recite the Mrityunjay Mantra daily, at least 108 times, as it helps protect against life-threatening situations and severe illness.
I am reproducing a case of him here for the enlightenment-
Case-1
Rao Sir writes- In 2004, my acquaintance Jyotirmay, the Hindi journalist, accompanied a woman who sought advice regarding her son’s horoscope. She provided insights into her son’s ailment, akin to Pott’s Spine in medical terms, emphasizing its severity.
In this horoscope, Lagna at 3 deg, Mercury the rules the 22nd Dreshkona, while Jupiter resides there. Jupiter governs the 64th Navamsha, alongside Jupiter and Venus placements in it. Although the Moon rules the 85th Dwadashamsha, Mercury occupies it, under Saturn’s influence. During November 2004, Mercury governed the AntarDasha within the Rahu Mahadasha, commencing on January 5, 2003, slated to conclude on July 24, 2004.
(Note- Gemini-Sagittarius axis is afflicted, it signifies spine)
The All India Medical Institute’s physicians recommended a surgical procedure. However, due to a lengthy waiting list, the operation could only be scheduled for several months later. Upon analyzing the astrological aspects, I discerned that during this period, Rahu’s mahadasha and Mercury’s antardasha, governing the second house and the twenty-second dreshkona, were in effect. It became evident through astrological scrutiny that any surgical intervention during this time could prove fatal, potentially exacerbating existing complications rather than alleviating them. Furthermore, even with the operation, the physicians estimated the likelihood of a successful outcome to be no more than ten to twenty percent.
I recommended that the mother chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra for her son until the antardasha shifted from Mercury to Ketu, expected around July 2005. During this period, she should continue administering the prescribed medications as per the doctors’ instructions. Additionally, I advised her, as a mother, to personally perform the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, especially since Jupiter influences the fourth house of her son in both his birth chart, and Moon being the 9th lord aspecting 9th house of Fortune. Considering her demanding journalistic commitments, undertaking 11 lakh mantra japa herself proved challenging. Therefore, I suggested she chant as much as feasible and enlist the assistance of a Karmakandi pandit or her relatives to complete the remaining japams.
On April 26, 2006, she, accompanied by Shri Jyotirmay, provided the following update:
- She personally completed 11 thousand Mrityunjaya mantras.
- The boy remained consistent with his medication regimen.
- When the boy underwent examination six months later, there were no indications of the ailment whatsoever.
- Doctors deemed the outcome nothing short of miraculous.
- Astrologically, the antardasha of Ketu commenced in the ninth house of bhagya, and aspected by 9th lord Moon. Note- This Ketu is in 5th house of Poorva Punya in D12 chart of parents, and Moon in 12th house of religious practices of mother.

This individual, who works under my father at BLW, Varanasi, took sick leave, prompting my father to inquire about the issue. They revealed that he was suffering from liver cirrhosis, and their condition was deteriorating. In response, my father offered assistance, mentioning that his son (myself) practices Jyotisha.
Upon receiving the horoscope, I performed my customary corrections, guided by the teachings of my mentor, Sh. VP Goel. For a comprehensive assessment of bodily ailments, I referred to the D27 chart. In this analysis, Jupiter emerges as the 8th lord in both D1 and D27, positioned within the 5th house, corresponding to the stomach region, in D27. It finds itself in the company of Saturn (the Rog Karaka), and is subject to the influence of Maraka Mars, Sun, and the 5th lord Mercury. Furthermore, Jupiter governs the 22nd drekanna, 64th Navamsha, and 85th Dwadashamsha, yet suffers affliction across various charts, particularly evident in D9 and D27. It’s noteworthy that Jupiter, the significator of the liver, the vital organ sustaining life (Jeevan), bears significant affliction.
During the Rahu-Jupiter period spanning from 2017 to 2020, his ailment gradually began to manifest, as confirmed by him. Subsequently, the challenging Rahu-Shani period persisted until March 2023. Shani, serving as a maraka, occupied a pivotal position, being situated in the lagna and 12th house from the Mahadasha lord Rahu. While Shani assumed the role of a yoga karaka in the D27 chart, it faced afflictions, albeit forming auspicious combinations with Mercury, the trine lord. The Rahu-Sat-Jup period commenced in October 2022, coinciding with his critical condition, culminating in a desperate struggle in the hospital. Fortunately, during this tumultuous time, Jupiter transited the 8th house, remaining unscathed despite receiving the aspect of Shani, the Ayu Karaka, from Capricorn.
Despite the challenges, the presence of the GajKeshari Yoga and the placement of the 12th lord of divine element in the 5th house of Punya, aspected by Jupiter, provided a glimmer of hope. I recommended the performance of 1.25 Lakh Japa of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra by a Karamkandi Pandit, a practice to be undertaken by family members as well. Additionally, based on a Prashna consultation, I advised changing the doctor within a specified timeframe and undergoing a transplant before the onset of the Rahu-Mercury period in mid-February 2023. Doctors were not confident about success of transplant because of his other medical conditions. Given Shani’s role as the Yoga Karaka in D27, assistance was expected, albeit with potential complications, as Shani signifies the removal of body parts. In a remarkable turn of events, his wife graciously donated her liver for the transplant, a gesture symbolized by Shani being the 7th lord in the Navamsha of Venus, further emphasized by its Vargottama status.
As a result of these combined efforts, he experienced a remarkable recovery and regained his health. The presence of Mercury in the 12th house, 12th lord in 5th aspected by Jupiter and forming yoga in D27 with Shani and protecting the 5th house, Rahu-Mercury period, symbolizing the removal of illness, combined with divine guidance and appropriate counsel, facilitated his healing journey. The doctors were astounded by the rapidity of his recovery, a testament to the efficacy of the holistic approach undertaken.
Conclusion–
In reflecting upon these cases, it becomes evident that amidst life’s challenges and health crises, the recitation of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra emerges as a potent tool for healing and resilience. In both instances, individuals facing severe ailments found solace and relief through the consistent chanting of this sacred mantra. This ancient practice, rooted in spiritual tradition, transcends the complexities of astrological charts and offers a pathway to inner strength and divine intervention.
While astrology can provide valuable insights and guidance, it is essential to approach it with discernment and caution. As demonstrated, overly complex or fanciful astrological remedies may lead to confusion or distraction from practical solutions. Instead, focusing on sincere prayers, mindfulness, and holistic approaches to healing can yield profound results.
Therefore, let us heed the lessons learned from these cases and prioritize the power of spiritual practices such as reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra alongside seeking medical treatment and adopting a healthy lifestyle. By embracing a balanced approach that integrates faith, science, and self-care, we can navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience, ultimately emerging stronger and more empowered.
